When the Off Road Hi was released I knew this would be the perfect cold and wet weather hiking shoe for me. The Off Road Hi is an over-the-ankle hiking shoe made from leather, ripstop nylon with a waterproof/breathable HydroGuard liner. The looks are like a traditional classic hiking shoe. It uses VIVOBAREFOOT's off-road sole (2.5 mm base and deep 4.5 mm lugs), the same as found on both the Neo Trail and Breatho Trail.

I love to wear really minimal shoes and stand very close and stable to the ground. In winter though, thin minimal shoes are sometimes not the best option. Most cold comes from the ground and shoes with a thin sole just don't provide enough protection.
One of the main drawbacks to minimalist shoes in the winter is that they just aren't warm enough. The barefoot and minimalist shoe industry is young yet and the market is certainly nowhere near mainstream. So I get why there isn't a lot to choose from in terms of warm, winter, minimalist shoes. We have struggled over the years to find winter wear solutions and have made quite a few compromises on the "minimalism" because warmth is a very real concern where we live.
This past sumer at OR I snapped a few photos of some boots that caught my eye at the Otz Shoes booth. What I liked about them is that they looked both stylish and warm - I always have my eye out for zero-drop cold weather footwear. Renee and I have had a couple pairs on test for a few weeks now and while we can't give you an extensive review from such a short time-frame, we certainly can give your our first impressions.
