Customers are mixed about the leaking of the bottle. Some mention that there is no leakage at all and the valve thing is great, while others say that it leaks several times on a run, the hand just a bit too hard, and the water frequently drips on their hand. The pouch contents get wet in the Nathan, while the Camelback does not. The pocket is not waterproof, and with this style of cap, you WILL splash yourself.

It's still a bit too large and I don't fill up the bottle all the way (she still has to rotate hands like I do with my running bottle because of the weight of the water) but this bottle is the most ergonomically comfortable for her little hands. I have adjustable Velcro strap pulled all the way tight there is still a little play but it's not a problem because her thumb fits through the top loop and the bottle still nests comfortably in her palm. The bottle is designed for a quick squeeze to get water out but because her hands are too small to squeeze the bottle she's modified her water intake by inverting the bottle and taking a quick pull of water by sucking; we haven't experienced any problems with this style of bottle leaking... but she only uses it running and keeps it upright and can't squeeze it. I typically tend to throw my Nathan bottles through the top rack of the dishwasher occasionally to sterilize and notice that this is not the easiest bottle to get out the harness but then again, I only fill her bottle with water so it's not a problem because we don't take it out very often.
For reference, I am a petite woman of 5' size 4-6 clothing with fairly small hands and it fits great in my hands. Probably not ideal for super large hands/grips and doesn't carry much water but great for small runs with people with small to moderate size hand grips.
I bought this and the Camelback Quick Grip Podium Chill Bottle (see separate review). I will compare some here again. The Camelback is just a bit awkward on longer runs and the Nathan too small. The Nathan gets messy, the Camelback does not, The pouch contents get wet in the Nathan, Pouch stays dry in Camelback Quick grip..The Nathan is 10oz the Camelback says 21oz now (swear it was 22oz when I bought it). I was worried the Camelback would have a plastic taste/smell ( I hear people complain all the time about that with their Camelback vests) but the Camelback bottle is the first high tech plastic thing I have ever bought that has no plastic taste or smell or off gassing!!! The Nathan does have a slight plastic taste/smell but tolerable and I am very sensitive to tastes and especially smells..so if I can deal with it you should be able to. I like the thumb hole on the Nathan, the grip is a bit too wide around on Camelback and the bottle has notches and indentations that I end up fussing with the first few miles to get my hand just right. The Nathan is small and light and easy to run with. I think the Camelback is quieter with less sloshing around noise if that matters to you, maybe its the insulation.. Key fob fits fine in both bottle pouches.
I have been using this for a month now and here are some observations and highlights on the Nathan Quick Shot:
The good:
Thumb hole works, bottle is light and easy to carry.
Good for short runs only.
Key fob fits in pouch.
The not so good:
The valve is not very efficient, can get messy, works better if shooting water downward but really need to water proof the pouch, anything in there will get wet. Think it could also be splash back from close proximity to the valve.
Very slight plastic smell.
The strange:
I was expecting something about the size of a 12 oz beverage can, but this is tiny! I was so stunned I got out a measuring cup and it does indeed hold 10 oz! lol
Summary:
Its small and pouch gets wet but does the job on short runs (for someone who ran for years without carrying water it seems odd for me to complain the bottle does not hold enough)! Anyway I have been using this on short 3 to 4 mile runs and The Camelback on runs longer than that.
**A day after writing this review I was on a run and thinking about th review and I started laughing, For years I would do 6 to 10 mile runs (depending on terrain and trail) in the summer without even thinking about water...10 to 12 mile runs in the winter with no water..so it is kind of amusing I am saying this bottle is good only for short runs !! **
UPDATE:
When I was shopping a month ago on Amazon all I could seem to find was 10 oz or 22oz bottles, today I found a 18oz Nathan and ordered it (but reviews mention it leaks/gets messy). Again I wish Camelback would offer that size on Amazon as it is a superior bottle to the Nathan...Or as I mentioned change up the gripping area...

However, it only just fits on my small hand.
