Outdoor Retailer 2012 - Luna Sandals
Luna Sandals was at Outdoor Retailer again this year, it is always fun to catch-up with Barefoot Ted and see what cool things he is working on. The big news this year is that we can expect to see Luna Sandals in retail stores across the USA (and also in Japan). Watch the video to see refinements to the Luna straps and learn about the latest developments in banana flavored minimalist footwear.

Viable for hiking?
So do you feel these would actually be viable for hiking?
And, I thought the guy said the ones with the patented soles were available on their website... I sure cannot find them.
Well, if people can run
Well, if people can run off-road ultra distances (i.e. Leadville 100) in them, then I assume they would also be good for hiking. I haven't tried the Luna's yet, but know others who have used them on the trail with success. That being said, you might have a tough time going from heavy leather hiking boots to these, so it all depends on where you are at when it comes to foot conditioning and minimalist footwear.
One thing worth mentioning is that in high bug and/or tick conditions, you may want something with full foot coverage. In the western US, this isn't a big issue, but in the East it is.
I believe that the newer models that are just being finalized and will be available on the website soon.

Great
Good questions Damien. Ted needs to push that more in my opinion; 'Made in the USA'.
Luna Venado
Hey Damian: So, did Ted give any further indication about when the new models, especially the Venado (which you held) will be out? I have been running and wearing Original Luna's for a little while now and like them a lot. Descriptions of the Venado on line are scarce and offer little to no info. Aside from Ted and his crew, you probably have more knowledge about this sandal than anybody because you actually got to hold it. :) By chance, could you tell if it was just the neoprene with the MGT top, or was it a rubber sole, neoprene, and the top?
Thanks!
